Phone calls, letters and emails. Scammers are constantly finding new ways to trick gullible people money - and the newest weapon in the fight is the social networking site Facebook, which worldwide have topped 120 million users.
Fraudsters' method is obviously customized Facebook, so it works quite effectively. And it is right on the most private places of service that people are exposed to attempts at cheating - namely the chat feature and through the mail.
Australian Karina Wells is of those who suddenly got a message that her good friend Adrian needed help. In the chat saying he was stuck in Nigeria and needed $ 500 to get home to Australia. The message was sent from a friend that Adrian had allegedly confirmed and therefore saw it all very real.
- I pretended that I would help and pulled as much detail as possible out of him. So I sent it all on to both Facebook and the relevant authorities, says Wells, who then was more cunning than the fraudsters!
